Small very short period waves. Winds: E 17 to 19 knots. Seas: ENE 5 feet at 6 seconds. Breezy E winds with moderate choppy seas.

Florida's Gulf coast doesn't offer the surf of the state's Atlantic coast, but all winter, you'll find surfers lined up at the best breaks from St. Pete to Venice Inlet and all across the northwest. Southwest breaks of note are Treasure Island's Sunset Beach and St. Pete's Upham Beach.

Atlantic Coast

The waters of the Atlantic Ocean on the East Coast of Florida are, in general, known to have more wave action than the Gulf Coast.

Siesta Key, Florida

Siesta Beach brings the soft, white sands and clear water of the Caribbean to the States. Located on the Gulf of Mexico, the beach earned the title "#1 Beach in the U.S." for three years. Its water is calm and the nearby Point of Rocks is the perfect place to watch the sunset.

Due to the lack of seismic activity near Florida, there is a low chance that a tsunami will threaten our coastline. However, it is not impossible. Landslide-generated tsunamis pose a greater threat in the Atlantic Ocean.

The Beach at Pompano Beach

The beach is open 365 days a year. Main Public Beach: Atlantic Boulevard and Pompano Beach Boulevard running north for several blocks. Swimming areas are guarded seven (7) days a week by the beach patrol from 9.00am to 4.45pm. Look for swimming conditions posted on the lifeguard stands.

With over three miles of public beach access, there are tons of fun things to do in Pompano Beach. Swim, sunbathe, or have a picnic with views of the historical Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse at North Ocean Park.
