FAQs on Movement in Snails Video Lecture - Class 6

1. What is the purpose of movement in snails? Movement in Snails Video Lecture - Class 6 (8)

Ans. Movement in snails serves multiple purposes, including finding food, escaping predators, and seeking suitable environments for reproduction and hibernation. Snails use their muscular foot to glide along surfaces, aided by the production of mucus that reduces friction and facilitates movement.

2. How do snails move? Movement in Snails Video Lecture - Class 6 (9)

Ans. Snails move by using their muscular foot, which contracts and expands to create a rippling motion. The foot secretes a layer of mucus, reducing friction with the ground and allowing the snail to glide forward. This unique movement pattern enables them to navigate various terrains such as soil, rocks, and vegetation.

3. Can snails move quickly? Movement in Snails Video Lecture - Class 6 (10)

Ans. No, snails are not known for their speed. Their movement is relatively slow compared to other animals. On average, snails can travel at a speed of about 0.03 mph (0.048 km/h). This leisurely pace is due to their small size, the nature of their muscular foot movement, and their need to conserve energy.

4. Do snails retreat into their shells when they move? Movement in Snails Video Lecture - Class 6 (11)

Ans. No, snails do not retreat into their shells when they move. Their shells serve as a protective covering and cannot be used as a means of locomotion. Instead, the snail's body extends out from the shell, and the muscular foot comes into contact with the ground, propelling the snail forward.

5. Can snails move in water? Movement in Snails Video Lecture - Class 6 (12)

Ans. Yes, snails are capable of moving in water. While they are primarily found in terrestrial environments, many species of snails are adapted to freshwater or marine habitats. In water, snails use their muscular foot and mucus secretion to propel themselves forward, similar to their movement on land. However, their speed and agility may vary depending on the species and water conditions.

hello friends this video on body
movements part 19 is brought to you by
exam for your calm no more for your cram
exam so the next organism that we will
discuss is a snail so let's introduce
snail so when you look at the body of
the snail they have soft unsegmented
body so those segmentation in their body
and also the body is quite soft
now something special about the snail is
this shell which they carry over them so
when you look at the same you will see
this kind of a big structure over their
back so it seems as if they are carrying
this big structure so this structure is
called shell and it is made up of
calcium carbonate so it is like and you
can see it is like a skeleton on the
outer side of the body so it is not that
just for fashioner to scan with the
shell the shell is like the skeleton so
if it is a structure which is an outer
covering of the body so the shell is an
outer covering of the body so it
provides protection and the shell keeps
growing as the snail grows so the size
keeps on increasing until the snail
reaches the size of an adult after that
it doesn't grow any further so that's
about the shell so this is the coil
structure over their body so it looks
exactly like this so if you have not
seen a snail so just trying to see it
may be mostly you can see some pictures
or it is also available in different
types of climates so sometimes you can
also see it now how do snails move so
when it comes to movement snails move at
a very very slow speed so if when
compared to earth one these snails move
even slower than them so let's see how
do they move so they have a muscular
foot which helps in movement so this is
the muscular foot so this muscular foot
is such that it can be rest on the
ground and then
with the help of muscle contraction it
can gradually make the organism move so
not only this they also secrete a slimy
substance called the mucus so mucus is a
slimy and slippery substance that is
secreted which protects the muscular
foot from any type of mechanical injury
because when it is moving on a surface
there might be sharp objects there might
be some rough areas on the surface so
the muscular foot might get injured so
to protect from such injuries these
slimy substance makes the surface smooth
and that's how they they protect their
body parts and also it helps in easier
movement because have you ever seen that
when you take you walk on the slippery
surface what happens you tend to fall
down because it is very slippery so that
means walking becomes easy or the
slightly surface but then some if the
surface is too smooth we tend to fall
down so the same is true here so when
the surface is made slippery movement
becomes easy so that is what is being
done here and due to the secretion of
this mucus wherever you see a snail
moving you would see a trail you would
see a line of this mucus behind because
as it is moving these mucus is being
secreted
so this train of mucus is known as the
slime trail this is called the slime
trail thank you please visit
